Tablet users follow a similar pattern. But app users will account for only 83.2% of tablet users this year, and installers only 78.1%. The ease of web use on tablets makes apps slightly less crucial. Consumers are using and installing fewer apps as they settle on favorites. App users aren’t exploring as much.

Eighty percent of US internet users ages 0–11 will be tablet users this year, and almost 30% will be smartphone users, per our forecasts. Digital video is Gen Alpha’s top online pastime and should be marketers’ go-to format. Among the 36.2 million Gen Alpha internet users in the US, digital video is the most prevalent activity by far (81.4%), followed distantly by digital gaming, per our forecasts.

Almost all (98.2%) US adult Gen Zers (ages 18 to 24) will be smartphone users in 2023—and even teen Gen Zers will approach 90% penetration—compared with the 76.9% who will be CTV users and the 53.8% who will be tablet users. YouTube and TikTok are their preferred free ad-supported video platforms. YouTube will capture 86.6% of Gen Zers this year, while 66.7% will be on TikTok.
