But now we have all of these movies coming down the pipelines, a bunch from Mattel, a Magic Eight ball movie. I think I saw a Hot Wheels movie, a Polly Pocket movie, which I did play with. I think that we can expect to see retailers really investing in media and seeing a Marvel movie sized universe of these toy movies because they help with media sales and they help drive toy sales.

I think the new TikTok Shop format will definitely give influencers a chance to become that breakout star, where in China we see a lot of the livestreaming was driven by these big live streamers who became celebrities in their own right and then had real celebrities clamoring to be on their broadcasts to help sell products and promote other things like movies or albums that are coming out.

With a new universe to promote, Mattel has released a line of Barbie The Movie dolls, featuring dolls, outfits, toy cars, and a replica of the Barbie Dreamhouse from the movie. Last year, Barbie generated $1.49 billion in worldwide gross billings (Mattel’s metric for comparing its businesses), nearly a quarter of the company’s total. That number was down 11% from 2021.
